You have to remember that the students where talented to begin with. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't last 7 weeks if you couldn't draw to begin with, provided you got into the school at all!
"Talent" is a lie. Beyond the very first attempt, skill comes from hard work, and the students at FZD do work damn hard (Have you seen the class schedule!?). Getting into the school is based on demonstrating a strong interest in design, NOT on your skills. Feng has turned guys who could barely hold a pencil into artists.
In other words - don't be so defeatist! Skill is not reserved for special snowflakes.
Talent? Please. Talent is just a convenient excuse for people who give up when faced with hard work. People who've gone to FZD will tell you their students put inhuman amounts of work into this. Hell, even Feng said the students are expected to be drawing all day and nothing less.
It's honestly quite frustrating, as someone who's been told he has talent his entire life in various areas, when people disregard the sheer effort one needs to dedicate to become good at something like this.
yup talent, talent is what gets you in the door, you may not be the best artist in the world going into the school but obviously they choose the student base on what they see from their work. Saying that anyone who goes to this school with never drawing a stick figure and in 7 weeks being able to produced whats above just following the "class schedule" is pretty impressive....
i love the ships!! ( btw, not every ship is a real tallship but that aside... awesome)... and those trains.. so cool.. but again.. those elliptical shapes (like the wheels and boiler).. free handed? those seem soooo accurate to me like its been done with a little Photoshop help.. but if they are really handdrawn.. im very very very impressed... and some kind of jealous then (my freehand circles, "str8"lines and ellipses are just looking sh*t, but i admit.. need to practice)
OMG, just seven weeks? .___. that's awesome.
ReplyDeletestudents do it from photo reference or its visualization...?
